Who is Albert E. Norato, Jr.? He is not just some white-collared reclusive lawyer who works for the nice sports care and lavish lifestyle. Al was originally born and raised in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. In his early life, he worked for his family business at an Italian-American restaurant in Federal Hill, Providence, RI. At the age of 21, Al joined the Providence police department. While in the police department, Albert continued to better himself and look for ways to further his career. Within six and a half years, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant while and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Roger Williams University majoring in the Administration of Justice. Ultimately, he earned a Master of Science degree in the Administration of Justice from Salve Regina University. Within 10 years of joining the force, Albert felt that there were many to protect and serve his community than the traditional law enforcement role and decided to pursue a career in law. Albert moved to St. Paul Minnesota where he attended and graduated from William Mitchell College of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. He was also a member of the William Mitchell Law review for two years. During his law school career, he multitasked as a volunteer for the defense counsel as well as an intern for the honorable judge Hon. Robert Lynn in Hennepin County, primarily working on several high profile cases that involved the 1992 assassination of a Minneapolis police officer Jerome Haaf. Eventually, Albert moved back to the East Coast and settled in Suffolk County. In 2000, he joined the Suffolk County Legal Aid Society as a staff attorney for the Family Law Bureau, where he handled a variety of cases. Along with his casework, he handled his own appeals in a truly dedicated fashion. In 2001, he was transferred to the District Court Bureau where he worked in general trial parts and was ultimately permitted to become a member of the D-35 Felony Team. Gary. Port has been recognized by the New York Law Journal in 2016, in “Those Who Lead, Pro Bono Category.” He was also honored in 2016 by the Center for Children, Families and the Law, and the Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy. In 2016 he was also honored by Angel for Warriors for his Pro Bono work for Veterans. Mr. Port is former Assistant Professor at the Maurice Deane School of Law, Hofstra University where he established the well regarded Veteran’s Law Clinic. He has also been named Chairman of the Nassau County Bar Association Veterans’ Law Committee. Mr. Port heads the Divorce and Family Law group. Mr. Port graduated law school in 1986 and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army later that year. He served on active duty and as a reserve officer until January 1, 2015, when he retired a the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Port served in various positions and ended his career as the legal advisor (Staff Judge Advocate) to the Commanding General of the much storied 78th Training Division. He was twice awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, three times awarded the Army Commendation Medal and was awarded the Army Achievement Medal. Mr. Port served in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office from 1990 to 1993 where he prosecuted major crimes. He left for private practice in 1993, working at two law firms until founding his own practice in 2002. He is currently the Commander of American Legion Post #81, Franklin Bell.
