Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
After years of receiving long term disability benefits from Aetna, by client's payments were suddenly terminated, leaving him in a state of financial ruin. Over the next four years I fought to restore his benefits, first by submitting the required appeal to the insurance company, and then by suing the insurance company in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. I won Summary Judgment and an Order from the Federal Court to pay my client all past due benefits, interest, and attorneys fees, and to restore monthly benefit payments which can continue for the next two decades. Upon the insurance company's appeal, I won a decision in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, affirming the judgment of the District Court.
How did you build a successful practice?
I built a successful practice by carefully listening to my clients' concerns and objectives, and then tirelessly fighting on their behalf.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Experience, a record of success, an ability to communicate the client's concerns and wishes, and the energy and determination that's required to win.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is very important. It brings a personal element to carrying out an attorney's professional responsibilities.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
A telephone consultation should be limited in terms of legal advice. The purpose of the consultation is to understand the client's concerns, issues, and objectives, and determine if there is a legal remedy. Actual legal advice can only come after a more detailed analysis of available evidence and further legal exploration. I can help the client understand the legal process, potential timelines, and the various ways our legal representation can be structured.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
In a free telephone consultation, I need information about the facts and circumstances that the client believes to constitute a legal grievance, and an understanding of what the client hopes to achieve in terms of the outcome.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I endeavor to treat every client as if they are my only client. Although cases very in terms of their magnitude and what's at stake, I understand that each client's respective legal concerns of great importance to them individually. I am always accessible by cell phone, and I'm always available to talk through the issues. I keep my clients informed, and never leave them wondering about the status of their case.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of being an attorney is taking an impossible situation and turning it into a successful case. It's helping my client's through unfamiliar territory with the assurance that they matter to me, and I'm working hard for them.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I play guitar and perform, from time to time, in local bars and restaurants. I play tennis, golf, and also enjoy working around the house. I'm an avid pool player, and very much enjoy spending time with my wife and children.
Are you involved in your community?
I have served my community in volunteer capacities (such as serving on the local United Way board of directors), and as an elected official (as a member of the local planning board, as a member of the Council, and as Mayor).
