About James
JAMES D. JACOBSON, the Firm's managing member, has represented businesses and their key individuals with respect to all of their business matters. Jim received his B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Indiana University in 1978 and his J.D. from DePaul College of Law in 1981. He was an accountant on international projects for Abbott Laboratories during 1977-78 and received his Certified Public Accountant certificate in February 1980. From 1980 to 1981 Jim was with the Chicago Appeals Division of the Internal Revenue Service handling large and complex tax cases and from 1981 to 1983 with a mid-sized Chicago firm on corporate and tax-oriented matters before joining the Firm. He has worked on a wide range of business matters, including forming and structuring entities and their financing, all types of commercial contracts and transactions, bank financing and loans, mergers, acquisitions, buy-outs, regulatory matters (including before the IRS, the Illinois Departments of Revenue, Employment Security, Illinois Commerce Commission and Labor), succession planning for closely held businesses, and income, sales, use, excise and other tax issues and estate planning matters. Jim is a member of the American Institute of CPA's, The Illinois State CPA Society, the Illinois, American and Chicago Bar Associations and sits on several CBA tax and business law committees. Jim is a board member of the DePaul College of Law Dean's Advisory Committee and is a long-standing board member of the Chicago Legal Clinic, a non-profit organization providing legal services to the poor.
