About James
Mr. Merson proudly served as a public defender in the Greeley Regional Office of the Colorado Public Defender for 14 years. During his time as a public defender, Mr. Merson gained extensive experience as a litigator. He has handled thousands of cases, litigated hundreds of suppression and motions hearings, and tried nearly 100 jury trials. He has handled everything from simple misdemeanors to homicides. He has also handled several appeals in Weld District Court, the Colorado Court of Appeals, and the Colorado Supreme Court. While in law school in 2004, Mr. Merson was the first certified intern to argue a case before the Washington Supreme Court. In 2010, he was honored with the "Attorney of the Year" award from the Colorado Public Defender for outstanding service as an attorney. He was selected for this award out of hundreds of attorneys in the Colorado Public Defender System.
