About James

James Schreier  is co-litigation chairperson and general counsel for the Firm.  He was born in 1950 in Detroit, Michigan. He obtained his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year and received a Bachelor of Arts degree, with Highest Honors, in 1971. He then attended Yale Law School, where he participated in a variety of forensic and writing programs and received his J.D. degree in 1974.

After a brief period working for a small firm in New Haven, Connecticut while he studied for the California Bar Examination, Mr. Schreier joined Wyman, Bautzer, Christensen, Kuchel & Silbert as an associate in December 1974. He became a partner with that firm in 1980 and in 1988 became one of the founding partners of the Firm.

For his entire professional career, Mr. Schreier has litigated and tried cases in both California state and federal courts, as well as in a variety of alternative dispute resolution venues. The majority of his current primary practice area is entertainment and employment-related litigation. However, in his 30 years of practice, he has also done substantial work in other areas, including taking to trial a variety of complex contractual and business tort disputes as well a number of inverse condemnation and other real estate-related matters.

Due to his wide experience and expertise, he is frequently called upon to handle cases not only in California courts, but those of other jurisdictions as well. Most recently, Mr. Schreier has been a trial attorney in a widely-publicized multi-billion dollar securities and fraud proceeding tried in federal court in the District of Delaware and in a multi-million dollar title insurance lawsuit before the federal court in the Southern District of Illinois.

Mr. Schreier lives in Pacific Palisades, California with his wife Debra. They are involved with a number of local and national charitable and educational organizations.
