About James

Jim is the chairperson of the firm's Business Law Department and works primarily with the firm's business and corporate clients by advising business clients about business and corporate law issues, advising nonprofit organizations about their special legal concerns, working to prevent and resolve employment law problems, helping clients protect their intellectual property rights, advising clients about business succession and personal estate planning needs, and helping with real estate law issues.
Jim is the author of the Minnesota Mechanic's Lien Practice Manual which was published by Butterworth Legal Publishers as a reference book for real estate attorneys in the state. Jim is admitted to represent clients before all of the Courts serving this state including the U.S. Supreme Court, the Minnesota Supreme Court, the Federal District Court for Minnesota, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Tax Court.
Jim also is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Ramsey County Bar Association, American Association for Justice, and Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association.
Like the other attorneys in the firm, Jim is active in the community we serve. Jim has served as a director of The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce and as President of the Brooklyn Community Chamber of Commerce. Jim is presently a director of the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the North Hennepin Community College Foundation. He served as a Co-chairperson and director of the St. Anthony Park Community Council (a publicly elected city-community liaison and district planning organization), and is a member of the St. Anthony Park Association and the St. Anthony Park Branch Library Association. Jim is a member of the St. Anthony Park United Church of Christ where he recently chaired a $450,000 remodeling project and has served as Moderator, Treasurer and on various boards and committees.
When away from the office, Jim enjoys cross-country skiing, gardening, and a variety of activities with his family. Jim has been an adult Cub Scout leader, youth soccer coach, and is an age group coordinator for the St. Paul Blackhawks soccer club.
