About Janet

Janet L.Kuhn, Esq. is Senior of Counsel at Zell Law.  Ms. Kuhn is known throughout the country as a leader and expert in the areas of estate planning and elder law.  Significantly, Janet pioneered the use of revocable living trusts in the State of Virginia.  At Zell Law, Janet provides a wealth of experience in estate planning and elder law including the areas of long term health care, Medicare, and Medicaid planning.

Prior to joining the firm, Janet was the Principal Attorney and founding shareholder of the Law Offices of Janet L. Kuhn in McLean, Virginia.  She headed her practice for almost twenty years counseling her clients on their estate planning, tax planning and elder law issues.  While managing her thriving practice, Janet served as a hotline attorney for AARP's Legal Counsel for the Elderly, Washington, D.C. Chapter.
Prior to managing her own firm Janet was an Associate Counsel with Steptoe & Johnson, in Washington D.C.  At Steptoe & Johnson Janet practiced antitrust, legislative and administrative Law.  Janet began her legal career as a Legislative Assistant for Congressman Alphonzo Bell, Jr. of California, for whom she initiated, drafted, and coordinated legislative bills and amendments related with lobbyists, committee staffs, and other member of Congress. 

Ms. Kuhn is admitted to practice as an attorney in Virginia and the District of Columbia. She holds her Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center, graduating in the top 5 percent of her class.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount College. There Janet was deemed a Curian Scholar who received the Gold Medal for Distinction in Business Administration. 

Janet's professional membership includes the Fairfax County, Virginia, DC, and American Bar Association.  She sits on the Board of Directors for the Legal Services of Northern Virginia, is the Vice President of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association, and is a column Editor for the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). Janet has extensive speaking experience with both small and large groups.  Janet is the author of several articles on estate planning and elder law topics including Title IX:  Employment and Athletics are Outside HEW's Jurisdiction, 65 Geo. L.J.49 (1976).   Janet is listed in both the Outstanding Young Women of America, 1971 and Who's Who is America Politics, 1969-1974.  Janet lives in McLean Virginia, with her husband, Ira.
