Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I was the 3rd lawyer consulted on a premises liability case (slip and fall on black ice). The previous lawyers didn't think there was a case. I took the case and fought to get the client a healthy settlement for her serious injuries.
How did you build a successful practice?
My client base continues to grow from clients being satisfied with our services and willingness to go the extra mile for their case.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
I always tell clients: "if you have a question, call me. If I don't know the answer I will find it and call you back." That's what a person should look for in a lawyer: some one who is responsive to their needs and willing to call them back.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Knowing the Macomb County Circuit Court and being familiar with how things work can mean the difference between success and failure for your case.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
During a free consultation I will discuss your case at length and provide a preliminary opinion on your case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I will need the facts of your particular case including the date, location and names of parties involved.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have been a trial lawyer for 27 years. I am former President of the Michigan Trial Lawyers - Macomb Chapter and Chair of the Employment Law Committee for the Macomb Bar Association. I served for 3 years on the panel of lawyers and judges appointing Case Evaluators for Macomb County. My areas of practice are personal injury, medical malpractice, social security disability and employment law.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
We serve to protect the rights of people, standing up to at fault and drunk drivers, insurance companies or doctors who don't want to take responsibility for their actions.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
We are a lawyering family. My wife is one of my legal assistants and has been a legal secretary for over 30 years. My oldest son, Zack, clerked for me through law school, practiced with me for a year and is now working for a large firm, gaining more training in the field of insurance law. My second son, Nate, is in his last year of law school and works as my law clerk. My youngest, Aaron, is applying to medical school and reviews medical records for us. The law is not a job for us, it is a way of life that is demanding, but very satisfying when we are able to help people in a real way.
Are you involved in your community?
We have been members of our church for 20 years and regularly give of ourselves to the causes and needs of our congregation.
