About Jennifer
Ms. Lord, an attorney licensed since 1992, is committed to protecting the rights of employees who have been victimized by unlawful discrimination. Having devoted eight years to representing employees exclusively, she has extensive experience litigating race, sex, disability, and age discrimination/harassment cases, as well as actions under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Her practice also includes a wide variety of retaliation claims including violations of the Michigan Whistleblower’s Protection Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and complex Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) actions.
In the 1990’s, Ms. Lord represented employers involved in discrimination and wrongful discharge claims. As a result of this work, she brings a unique perspective to each of her cases and proactively preempts defense strategies. She also worked for several years as a legislative assistant to a Member of the United States House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., drafting legislation and working with a wide variety of interest groups. This experience gives her valuable insight in the interpretation of federal and state law and the ability to bring opposing parties to a mutually acceptable resolution of disputes. She has also represented municipal organizations on a pro bono basis including the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Lathrup Village, and the Covington by the Lake Subdivision Association.
Ms. Lord is experienced in all aspects of employment law in federal and state court, administrative proceedings, arbitrations, trials, and alternative dispute resolution procedures. Despite the current economic conditions, she successfully negotiates severance packages and regularly resolves employment disputes prior to litigation.
Ms. Lord is a member of the Michigan Association for Justice and National Employment Law Association. In her personal time she is active with the Bloomfield Hills School District and the Birmingham Athletic Club.
Ms. Lord joined Sterling Attorneys as a Senior Attorney in 2009, after spending the previous four years at Dib, Fagan and Brault, P.C.
