About John
John (Jack) grew up in Norwalk, Connecticut. After graduating from Norwalk High School he received a B.A. degree in U.S. History and Political Science from the University of Connecticut in 1986, graduating cum laude. In 1990 he graduated from Pace Law School in White Plains, New York, where he served as an editor of the Environmental Law Review and was recognized as a Ranking Scholar. He then practiced as an associate attorney for the national law firm of Dow, Lohnes & Albertson, working in the firm's Manhattan office for two years. Mr. Mills returned to Connecticut in 1992 and joined the civil trial law firm of Murphy & Karpie, LLC in Bridgeport. At Murphy and Karpie he gained invaluable training and experience in all aspects of Connecticut trial law, trying more than thirty (30) cases to verdict before juries in state and federal court. He also engaged in appellate practice, successfully arguing several cases before the Connecticut Appellate Court, the Connecticut Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit in New York.
In 1998 Mr. Mills became a partner at Murphy and Karpie, and continued to practice there until leaving to open his own law firm in New Haven in 2004. Mr. Mills is admitted to the bar in New York and Connecticut, but his practice is focused in Connecticut. He is admitted to all state and federal courts in Connecticut. Mr. Mills has been deemed qualified to sit as a court-approved arbitrator for civil disputes, and often serves as a private mediator and arbitrator as well. He was also nominated to the Ansonia/Milford Grievance Committee, where he is responsible for reviewing ethical complaints made against other lawyers by their clients.
Mr. Mills is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the New Haven Bar Association, the Connecticut Trial Lawyer's Association, the Connecticut Defense Lawyer's Association, and he has served as a faculty member at professional seminars attended by trial attorneys throughout the state. Attorney Mills is a Board Certified Civil Law Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
