John is an experienced, successful AV rated shareholder in Lyons Gaddis Kahn & Hall, P.C. He has practiced law for 34 years in Longmont, Colorado. He has a broad-based practice and specializes in the following areas:

Real Estate Transactions, sales, leases, 1031 exchanges, commercial, and residential. For several years, John was a licensed Colorado real estate agent and helped manage a real estate business. Subsequently, he has successfully handled a significant number of farm, ranch and commercial transactions, each involving several million dollars. Many transactions have also included water rights, oil and gas issues, and gravel issues. As a member of the farming community, he has handled many farm and ranch transactions.

Personal Injury and Wrongful Death, traffic deaths, nursing home deaths, traumatic brain injuries, burns, motorcycle injuries, bicycle injuries, and similar matters. John has successfully handled several wrongful death cases, traumatic brain injury cases and other serious injury cases.

Family Law, including business valuations, psychological and custody evaluations, pre and post nuptial agreements, litigation, dissolutions, post decree, parenting issues, dependency and neglect, and similar matters. John has successfully represented several hundred clients in difficult family law cases.

Business and Commercial Law, purchases, sales, formation of entities, day-to-day issues, and similar matters. John is the attorney for over a hundred entities at the local, national and international level. John works in conjunction with patent attorneys and international lawyers when needed.

Municipal, Land Use and Zoning, annexation, and related matters. For ten years, John was the chair of the City of Longmont Planning and Zoning Commission. During that time, Longmont’s Zoning Code and the Longmont Area Comprehensive Plan were written. John has successfully assisted clients in various land use transactions in Boulder, Larimer and Weld Counties.

Civil Litigation, Trials, Appeals, commercial, real estate, estate, and bankruptcy, in both federal and state courts. John has successfully tried cases throughout the State of Colorado in the various practice areas listed here.  Estate Planning, Estates, John has written several hundred estate plans and helped administer many estates. He has also prepared federal estate tax returns (706) and has litigated many probate matters. Non-Profits. John has helped form numerous local non-profit organizations on a pro bono basis, and provided ongoing legal advice to many local non-profits.John is a member of both the Colorado and Boulder County Bar Associations. He has served as President or Chairman of several organizations, including the Boulder County Bar Association, the Boulder County YMCA, the Longmont Community Foundation, the Longmont Attention Homes, and Longmont Planning Commission. He has also served as a director in many other organizations.
