Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
COVID Workers Compensation cases have been on the rise over the last two years as people develop "long hauler" symptoms including respiratory, neurological, internal, and orthopedic issues. On top of that, we've had increases in stress and orthopedic claims from frontline workers due to the increased work. In both types of cases, we have won huge settlements for our clients and/or had their future medical care covered for the rest of their life. Helping those in need based on contingency and without any out of pocket costs is what sets our firm apart from the rest.
How did you build a successful practice?
Customer service is #1. Our clients access our firm App, which lets them text directly with their attorney and case management staff, along with make notes on medical appointments, set reminders, ask questions, and see the status of their case. On top of that, we have a proprietary case management handing system and the best staff around to address every issue. Our top technology paired with our trusted and knowledgeable attorneys means our clients get the best outcomes possible. That's why we are trusted by everyone from police officers and firefighters, to nurses and construction workers.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Communication, experience, and technology. Communication is key, because you want to be able to talk to your attorney directly for legal advice. You don't want to be handed off to a legal assistant for legal advice like at those big firms. Experience is also important - we were defense attorneys for the giant companies before we switched sides... which means we know every trick in the book and how the insurance calculates values. Finally - technology is very important in today's world to get the best representation. From electronic document submission, to proprietary App communication, to our in-house discovery and litigation tools - you can trust that our firm has the best technology for the best approach to obtaining benefits.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is not as important as many thing in workers compensation. Since work comp is a smaller more boutique area of law, over the years we have made relationships with every Judge and opposing counsel from the entire state. Now with COVID procedures including remote depositions and hearings, its even easier to get to know the Judges and attorneys even in the most remote locations. In addition, because we also often represent court QME doctors for collections all over the state, that gives us a advantage of developing even more relationships with Judges/attorneys compared to other firms.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
A free consultation goes over the basics of people's injury cases, from basic legal analysis to estimates on damages and litigation time. Obviously some analysis is limited since we don't have access to medical reports yet, but we do our best to give a general range on answers and analysis. We also answer basic questions, describe the workers compensation or injury system in general, and describe what sets our firm apart from others.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
In general we need information about how the injury happened, any employer or police reports, any information/discussion from insurance, and any information/discussion with doctors. Not all of these are needed, but the more information we have the better the analysis and recommendations. However we can always answer basic questions, and if information is needed set up another time for a second free consultation to discuss those items needed.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
First, our firm's dedication not only to the injured - but also their doctors. We represent court QME doctors for collections when insurance refuses to pay, so that we can keep good doctors in our system. Next is communication and technology - we have our own App, top technology for discovery and litigation, and our focus is customer service. The #1 complaint we heard about other firms is people are unable to speak with their attorney or get quick answers to questions. That is never a problem with our firm, as you text and talk directly with both your attorney and case management team. Finally, our firm's approach to discovery/litigation is a proprietary flow approach that maximizes the legal approach while giving opportunities for settlement when there is an advantage.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of our jobs is helping our customers. People get injured due to no fault of their own, they should have to get an additional headache navigating the workers compensation or insurance world where the big companies are trying to take advantage of them. Being able to take cases on contingency with no money down also means we can help everyone no matter what kind of job they have or what their economic status.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Our families are our primary focus outside of work, as we (and staff) have loved ones and children to look after every day. We are regular people with regular lives - with interested including enjoying the outdoors, family/friend BBQs and cooking, gardening, exercising, and entertainment. On weekends you may find us at the beach with our kids, planting some healthy veggies/fruit, or just having a move + dinner date night with our loved one.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes we love to support both our community at our firm locations, and our local communities where we live. Both are in Orange County California, and we are very happy to have been named OC's Favorite Firm. On top of all our other awards, being voted OC's Favorite Firm is truly humbling since it came from our neighbors. We also support local and national non-profits, from soup kitchens to unions. Mr. McCreary is also a big supporter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) since he has been a type 1 diabetic since he was 10 years old.
