A 1984 graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law, John Hurlbut is a partner with the Elgin, Illinois law firm of Hurlbut & Hurlbut, P.C. Following a judicial clerkship, he joined the Chicago District Counsel's Office of the Immigration and Naturalization Service as a Trial Attorney in 1986. Mr. Hurlbut was also the Deputy District Counsel in that office from 1989 until he was appointed a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois in 1997. Since entering private practice in 1998, Mr. Hurlbut has focused on individual, business and criminal related immigration matters. He also frequently appears in state trial courts dealing with civil matters, particularly related to real estate and business disputes. Mr. Hurlbut has been a frequent speaker on the immigration laws of the United States and a wide variety of immigration issues facing this country.
