About John
Mr. Penders was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 7, 1942 and graduated from LaSalle University with a B.A. in prelaw in 1964. He is a 1967 graduate of the Rutgers University Law School, and was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar during November of 1967. From February of 1968 through his discharge in December of 1969, he was on active duty with the United States Army with the rank of Captain, including a one-year tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam.
Following his return to civilian life in January of 1970, he returned to full time employment with the law firm of Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman & Goggin and has continued with that organization through the present. His thirty plus years of practice have been devoted exclusively to defense litigation with a concentration in the defense of product liability and catastrophic injury cases. Over the years, Mr. Penders has tried several hundred cases to verdict in almost all of the State and Federal Courts located in the Delaware Valley, and has represented numerous self-insured Fortune 500 corporations including The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, The Stanley Works, Harris Corporation, General Signal Corp., Campbell Soup Company, Danaher Corporation, The Sherwin-Williams Company, The Black and Decker Company and 3M Company. He has also represented a number of casualty underwriters including The Travelers, Liberty Mutual and AIG. Mr. Penders also has had extensive experience in defending Professional Liability suits filed against attorneys, accountants, financial planners, and insurance agents/brokers.
In addition to membership in the usual legal organizations and professional associations, Mr. Penders was selected in June of 1989 for membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates, which is a prestigious group of trial attorneys whose membership is based upon peer selection. He is also a member of the Board of Advisors for the Dean of the Rutgers University Law School and a mediator for the United States District Court.
