Jonathan Dingus | Panama City Criminal Lawyer

A member of the Florida Bar since 1989, Jonathan W. Dingus has represented individuals at the trial court and appellate level in a wide range of federal crimes, including drug trafficking charges, immigration-related crimes, bank fraud, theft, embezzlement and other white collar crimes. His primary emphasis has been defending controlled substance offenses.

A former prosecutor, he is experienced with the particular problems faced by persons who have been contacted or arrested by law enforcement, regardless of whether they are residents of Florida or are visiting Panama City.

In the past several years, I have gone to trial on several cases that I think merit attention: 1. a dissolution of marriage action where I was able to convince the judge to award equal time sharing of the parties two children, where there was not any timesharing before hand. 2. a sexual battery case involving a federal agent as the defendant where he was found not guilty following a jury trial; 3. a dismissal of burglary charges on a client on the eve of a jury trial; 4. several below the guidelines sentences for federal criminal defendants; 5. a modification of sentence from 120 days jail to time served after serving two weeks of the sentence. I convinced the judge to do so based on the clients mental health issues

a. honesty and fair dealings with everyone; this includes setting reasonable expectations with the client andor his or her family and friends; b. Hard work; this includes doing everything within the limits of the law to be more prepared than your competition; c. being nice and realizing that how you present yourself is always important.

Clients should look for someone who gives common sense advice at a fair price. If the advice heard by you doesn't make sense, you (the client) are probably better off with someone else.

The greatest thing about being a trial lawyer is the knowledge that you have helped someone by doing my job.

I think that the thing that differentiates me from the rest of the legal community is that I am board certified by the Florida bar as a specialist in criminal trial law, and I have been since 1999. In addition, I am certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a family law mediator.

• Criminal defense | Acquitted by a jury of their peers | This case involved the prosecution of 8 law enforcement officers for allegedly asphixiating a young man with ammonial It is known in common talk in this area as the "boot camp case'". It occurred at a juvenile boot camp here in Panama City. The discovery during the case showed, and it was presented at trial that death occurred because of the young man having sickle cell trait, totally unknown to the boot camp staff. I represented one of the officers who was boot camp staff. Criminal defense | Not guilty | This was a sexual battery case that involved a federal law enforcment officer and a local woman, who was dating the principal law enforcement agent assisting the prosecution. My client Mr. Pittman was acquitted by a jury of his peers.
