Josh pursued his undergraduate studies at Northwood University, in Midland, MI. He then went on to Thomas M. Cooley Law School where he grew as an individual and professional. While at Cooley, he worked for the Thomas M. Cooley Journal of Practical and Clinical Law where he served as a Board Member. He was an Articles Editor, Campus Communication Coordinator, and on the Legal Conference Committee. He hosted and helped organize the Journal’s first ever legal conference: Too Bear or Not Too Bear: Guns In Educational Institutions. Josh excelled in his writing courses and all of his practical skilled courses, which is why he received a Blue Book Award in his Trial Skills class.
He continues to hone his legal skills by attending various legal seminars, including, but not limited to, Criminal Law & Legislative Update Seminar, Advanced Felony Sentencing Seminar, and Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System Seminar (all of which were held and conducted by the Michigan State Appellate Defender Office). Furthermore, he has had the opportunity to work with some of the best and brightest legal minds in the State of Michigan. With his background, life experiences, quick whit, and endless amounts of energy he is the right Attorney for your legal issue. “He simply gets things done,” as one colleague put it.

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
he one case where I really believe that I made a difference was a delivery and manufacturing of marijuana case. The individual was charged with 3 counts of delivery and 1 count of maintaining a drug house along with a second subsequent notice (meaning a sentencing enhancement of all charges). He ended up pleading to one delivery count (no enhancement), and inevitably got no jail time, even though he had numerous priors. The judge suspended 6-months of jail time, which meant that if he violated probation he would automatically do 6-months in jail. He is still on probation, has not went to jail, and is currently managing a health store.
How did you build a successful practice?
I believe that I am a people person, which helps when dealing with different people on a daily basis. Combined with handwork, loyalty, and personal service my clients are always satisfied and rewarding. These are the essential elements needed to prosper in the world of law.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Loyalty, truthfulness, dedication, and trustworthiness.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It is essential; however, it's even more important to realize that each court is different and that you must always search out how those individual courts operate.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Depending on the facts and circumstances, detailed information can be provided within the initial consultation. However, during such a conversation not all facts or circumstances can nor will be known without further investigation and evidence. Therefore, and generally, numerous hypotheticals and scenarios can be discussed in order for the client to understand what he or she will be dealing with during the criminal process.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Contact Information (name, phone number, address, email) Current Criminal Charge, Age, Criminal History, Stage of Criminal Proceeding, Court Overseeing Charge, and whether any witnesses or co-defendants are known.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
You will never meet another attorney such as myself. I am very personable, understanding, and to the point. I walk over the coals with my clients and always will.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding part about what I do is helping people, making sure that their future will not be contingent on their criminal past or present.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I love being outside, especially being in the woods with my labrador. Cycling is another favorite past-time of mine, but sadly I do not get out on the saddle very often anymore.
Are you involved in your community?
I attempt to give back and assist those around me. It's the people that make the community we live in, so we must remember that it's more than just us the individual.
