He has the ability to handle a variety of legal matters thanks to this experience in criminal and civil litigation. Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I try to make a difference every week in the lives of my clients. Many of my cases are confidential, therefore I cannot discuss at length, however, usually the most rewarding are those in which I am the Guardian Ad Litem for children, aka I am the child(ren)'s attorney. They never asked to be in the litigation between parents, so I try to make it as painless as possible for them. Oftentimes their parents need a come to reality talk!

How did you build a successful practice?

I built a successful practice in a variety of different ways. I first started by concentrating on criminal and family law matters in law school, taking additional classes than were necessary. I then volunteered at the Montgomery County District Attorney's office for 6 months without pay just to gain invaluable experience. That volunteer term afforded me an opportunity for an internship which eventually led to a job. I litigated dozens of cases while at the District Attorney's office to expand my trial experience. I spent five years at the DA's office as a prosecutor. After leaving the District Attorney's office I was employed at the prestigious firm of Beasley, Allen. There I worked on BP oil spill litigation. Finally, I decided to start my firm. I built my own website, helped design and ordered letterhead, scouted out office space and began making professional connections. The first few years were difficult but going into my 6th year, I absolutely love what I do!

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for an attorney they connect with and can communicate easily with. Further, a client needs to understand that there are different types of attorneys, just like there are different types of doctors. Find an attorney that specializes in the area of law in which you legal issue arises. Finally, a client should do research to find an attorney that is reputable and preferably has a website and reviews.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

I think local knowledge can be important only if all other factors are in balance. An attorney that knows the judge(s) will always have an advantage over an attorney that doesn't, but that will not (normally) overcome a deficiency in the law or facts of any particular case.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Joshua Paul Jones, Attorney at Law provides free consultations via phone. However, many potential clients think that a consultation is giving free legal advice, which it is not. A consultation is a discussion regarding a case, a general game plan, and a fee quote.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

General information about your case, county in which the case will be litigated, contact information and payment information.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

My litigation experience. I have tried more cases than many attorneys my age. I am very comfortable in the courtroom and have the knowledge and skill to successfully litigate your case.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I love the challenge of addressing new legal issues. Clients come into my office with a wide variety of legal issues, and it is exciting to start from scratch with a game plan, open a file, and get into court to help that person resolve the issue successfully.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I'm an avid golfer with a low handicap. I play competitively in a few tournaments a year. I'm always trying to improve because the game is so complex. It is not for the faint at heart. I also like to travel and read.

Are you involved in your community?

Yes, I am the alumni advisor for my fraternity at Samford University. I also attend many local events and recently bought a house in Cahaba Heights.
