About Judy

Judy was born in Rhode Island on a Navy Base, in 1949. She moved to Victoria , Texas , then Corpus Christi , Texas at the age of nine months, so she considers herself a native Texan. After living in Corpus until she was sixteen, and loving Corpus and the beach, she moved to Alvin , Texas , where her father was promoted to Chief Engineer for the NASA space program and her mother taught English at Alvin High School -- the same school Judy attended.

Judy graduated from Alvin High School in 1967 and moved to Austin where she has barely budged. She attended the University of Texas from 1967 to 1974, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. Judy was a reluctant sorority chick, who goofed off during pledge training and generally had a good time at the University and with the Kappa Kappa Gammas, although somehow she was still able to maintain really good grades. She married Brian Newberry from Austin , Texas and by the time she graduated on the seven-year plan, she had two children, Paige and Blair. After graduating, Judy raised the kids, delved into her art, illustrated a book, and helped with the family business, Tarrytown Pharmacy, and generally had a really good time. Two more children were born, Mark and Joe, and Judy was exhausted by 1980.

Judy's own divorce in 1983 catapulted her into the field of law. She attended the Paralegal Program at Texas State University After graduating from the Paralegal Program, Judy worked at the Court of Criminal Appeals for Judge Marvin Teague, then worked for Douglass D. Hearne, Sr. as his litigation paralegal in the field of general civil practice for years. Judy decided she liked law, so she applied and entered St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio in 1993. Judy was on the Dean's List and joined Phi Delta Phi, the legal honor fraternity. She, along with a friend, established "SOD" or "Students Older than Dirt," which still exists today at St. Mary's. Judy loved law school, and generally had a great time in the process of learning the law, studying, and playing hard.

After graduating from St. Mary's in the Spring of 1996, because of her extensive paralegal experience, Judy hung her shingle one day and began to practice Family Law. Family Law came naturally, and very soon Judy had ALMOST more clients than she could handle. Judy learned how to take ONLY the number of clients she could handle, and has had a successful practice ever since, and she has a good time almost every day, even though Family Law can be serious business.

Judy centers her practice around God, although she does not consider herself a Bible Beater. Judy is Board Certified in Family Law and concentrates in Divorce, Child Custody, Modifications of Orders and other ancillary forms of Family Law. Judy belongs to several legal groups, especially the ones that promote healthy environments for children.
