Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Recently I have assisted several homeowners with problems they have with contractors. The contractors promise too much, or significantly underbid the project to get the work, but then add significant fees and costs to go forward. I have also assisted several homeowners who had inherited land or real estate from their parents, but one sibling wants to stay in the house and not pay to maintain it. I can file suit to force the sale, so that all of the heirs can benefit by the land and not be held hostage by the person who is in control of the property.
How did you build a successful practice?
By meeting with people in the community on a regular basis and learning about their problems. I also participate in many small business groups and chambers of commerce. I am usually readily accessible by phone or email during business hours and I respond timely. When I do not know an answer to my clients problems, I have resources within my firm where I can find the answer.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for a lawyer who is willing to listen to them and offer practical solutions for their problems. While I would love to have a trial on every case, it typically is not a cost effective way to resolve my client's problem.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
I practice only blocks from where I grew up and went to school. I am born and raised in the Chicago area and I raise my family here.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I can often identify several solutions to a client's problem and be able to give an approximate cost for each solution.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I typically need the client's name, and specific information on their problem. Dates and facts are very important.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I truly love to be able to assist someone with a problem. People come to me usually with a specific problem that keeps them up at night. They know they need a solution, but they are scared and are not sure where to turn.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy gardening and the outdoors. I like to spend quality time with friends and family.
Are you involved in your community?
I am an active fundraiser for my children's school. I also teach high school seniors about the dangers of credit cards and how to be smart about student loans so they have knowledge before they go off to college.
