Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

We regularly draft trusts for clients that help with their financial, personal, and family goals. It is always satisfying when we can see the tangible results of our work. For one client, we drafted an irrevocable trust for a client receiving Medicare Benefits. By doing strategic gifting, our client was able to maintain their Medicare payments and continue to afford long-term medical care which they otherwise would not have been able to afford. In a trust litigation case, we represented a client who was trying to remove a third party as Trustee. This third party had engaged in financial elder abuse for years prior to the decedent passing away, had secreted hundreds of thousands of dollars, and had caused the decedent to change the terms of her trust to benefit this third party. We successfully advocated for our client and the result was that the third party was removed as trustee and forced to return the assets that they had stolen.

How did you build a successful practice?

The cornerstone of our practice is really listening to our clients objectives and forming creative and unique solutions. We recognize that no two families are the same, and as such, every estate plan must be crafted in this light. Whether you have a child with special needs, a small estate consisting of your family home, a large estate that includes family businesses, or you just want to provide for your pet when you pass away, we work with our clients to ensure all their needs are met.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

It is important for a client to find a lawyer who listens to their needs, rather than push a cookie-cutter, one size fits all, solution. It is important to feel that the attorney you hire is responsive to your questions and has a dialogue with you and can explain the estate planning or litigation process to you.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is important for any business. Our office has connections with some of the area's leading professionals in the financial planning industry, tax planning, and other practice attorney's. This means if we have a question or want a second opinion, we always know who to ask, which will ensure your case is handled to the best of our ability.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

During an initial no-cost phone consultation, we can discuss estate planning strategies that would benefit your family. In addition, if your case is a trust litigation case, we can go over what remedies you and your family have and the likelihood of success for your case. Finally, if your calling regarding a probate case, we can outline the probate process for you and discuss what documents and forms will need to be filed with the court.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Any document that might be relevant to your situation is helpful for us to determine how we can assist you.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of being an estate planning attorney is helping my clients have the peace of mind in knowing that their estate is structured in a way to achieve maximum financial savings and to be distributed in the specific ways that they want.
