About Kathleen
Kathy Stoneman is a licensed attorney in Oregon and in Ohio. While in Ohio she owned and operated her own law firm, Stoneman and Allmon, Attorneys at Law, for twenty seven years before moving to Oregon in the Summer of 2009 to practice law with her longtime friend, Tom Fiscus.
Kathy graduated summa cum laude from Mount Union College in Alliance Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in 1982.
She has devoted her entire career to serving people with their estate planning needs, preparing individualized estate plans tailored to meet her clients' desires and goals. She has also helped families navigate through the difficult issues of estate administration, guardianships and conservatorships, and has litigated many probate matters. In addition, she has concentrated her practice in all areas of family law, serving frequently in the role of attorney/guardian ad litem for children caught in the middle of their parents' divorces or custody battles, as a collaborative attorney in dissolutions and as an adoption attorney. Also, she regularly advises small business clients in the areas of choosing the best business entity for their particular needs and providing the full range of legal services to her small business clients from the establishment of their businesses through the various issues that arise in the course of operation of those businesses to the closing or transfer of those businesses to the next generation or to a purchaser of the business. As a trained and experienced mediator she is able to assist people find resolutions to their disagreements with others outside the courtroom.
Kathy is a member of the Oregon Bar Association and is a member of the executive committee of the Sole and Small Firm Practitioner's Section of the Oregon Bar, as well as being a member of the Estate Planning and Family Law Sections. In addition, she is a member of the National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC), the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), the Oregon Mediation Association and is a 2007 Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation.
Kathy was appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court in 1983 to the committee that drafted Ohio's Child Support Guidelines and was then appointed in 2008 to the Ohio Supreme Court's Commission on Professionalism. In addition, she has served on the Ohio State Bar Association's Juvenile Justice Committee, as Vice Chair of the Ohio State Bar Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Section, as a member of the Ohio State Bar's Special Committee to Review the 1995 Gender Task Force Report, Ohio State Bar Fee Arbitration/Mediation Panel, was Co-chair of the Ohio State Bar Pro Bono Committee Task Force for the 7th Appellate District, and was a member of the Ohio State Bar committee that drafted and edited the publication Officekeeper. She was also the Ohio State Bar representative on the Ohio General Assembly Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem Study Committee.
Besides being active on the state level she has been active in her local community, serving as a member of the Carroll County Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities Board, as a member and chairperson of the Carroll County Foundation, as secretary of the Carroll County Bar Association, as board member of the Carroll County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and as a member of a number of local scholarship committees. Additionally, she served as Treasurer for Okey for Ohio Committee for Mark D. Okey, State Representative to the Ohio General Assembly for the 61st District.
