Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Case involved a detained African immigrant. Prior attorney was criminal law attorney and could not help. Her bond application was denied. Government argued my client was charged with a serious crime and in particular, that my client was a flight risk. The case was then referred to me and I was able to secure her release by arguing to the judge that she was not a flight risk as she had hired an attorney (myself) to handle her case, and by the way, had a filed and pending petition for relief (asylum). I also drew attention to the fact that she had a little two year old baby deprived of the chance of bonding with her mother because of her continued incarceration. The Judge agreed - bond granted!

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients should look for someone who has done it before. Someone whose practice focuses on the specific area in question.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge is definitely important. You know what each judge tolerates, know the procedures in each court, how the cases are called up in each court, how pleadings are taken etc.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

In a consultation, I will give better knowledge of what the stakes are, what kind of documents (or other evidence) would bolster a given case, what to expect in court, or how long the kind of cases typically take.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

During consultation, I will get a comprehensive picture of the facts relating to the client's case; to understand where the client is coming from and what their expectations are. I like to know what actions have been carried out so far and what responses obtained.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Well, for one thing I am an immigrant and understand better the issues typically confronting immigrants. I charge a flat fee rather than on an hourly basis, which makes my fees on the lower end and easily ascertainable. This also benefits my clients as they can plan better.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is that it affects real people with real problems. Nothing is more gratifying than the knowledge that you were instrumental in securing the liberty of someone by getting them out of immigration jail for example. Especially when that person had no hopes, prior to meeting you, or when you assist a real person to acquire a legal status which allows them to live freely in this country.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am an avid soccer player and follow the game at the National level voraciously.

Are you involved in your community?

I am an active member of my church and contribute to church charity events.
