Education and Prior Work Experience

Laurie graduated with a journalism degree from Butler University, magna cum laude, with departmental honors in 2000. While at Butler, she competed her honors thesis, Hate Speech Regulation on Campus: Necessary Protection or First Amendment Violation?, served as Editor-in-Chief of Butler's student newspaper, The Collegian, and spent a semester abroad at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Following graduation, Laurie worked for Ambassadair Travel Club as a tour coordinator, web marketing editor, and contributor to Journey Magazine.

Laurie attended Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, graduating summa cum laude in 2006. She served as Editor-in-Chief of the Indiana Law Review, was named to the Order of Barristers, completed forty hours of certified civil mediation training, and was named Chancellor’s Scholar. Laurie also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Chief Judge Larry J. McKinney in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

Professional Associations, Memberships and Community Service

While in law school, Laurie participated in pro bono work with the Protective Order Pro Bono Project, Reach for Youth Teen Court, and the Indianapolis Bar Association's Ask an Attorney program. She continues to help petitioners obtain civil protective orders with the Protective Order Pro Bono Project and serves as an intake volunteer for the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic. Laurie is a member of the American, Seventh Circuit, Indiana State, and Indianapolis Bar Associations. Laurie is also a member of the Indianapolis chapter of the Sagamore American Inn of Court.
