About Michael

Michael M. Levin is an experienced attorney who has been in private practice as a criminal defense lawyer for over 25 years. He has conducted numerous jury trials in cases ranging from DUI to capital murder. In addition to his time in the courtroom, Mr. Levin spends countless hours reviewing evidence, performing legal research, and meeting with clients and witnesses. He has a reputation for integrity and candor — he tells clients the truth instead of telling them what they think they want to hear.

Over the years, Mr. Levin has developed an extensive network of colleagues in criminal defense and other related fields. These relationships ensure that when a client needs their attorney to go that extra mile, Mr. Levin can usually make that happen. Mr. Levin knows from years of professional experience that criminal defense is all about knowledge, relationships, and insight. Whether providing pure criminal defense representation, dealing with appellate issues, or dealing with quasi-criminal litigation matters such as restraining orders and professional licenses, Michael Levin brings experience, dedication and integrity to the table.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

A 27 year old male Hispanic (AS) was charged with robbery. The victim of a robbery reported the perpetrator driving a white Chevy truck bearing a license plate number which traced back to AS. When shown a photo line up containing a picture of AS and 5 other people, the victim picked out AS. AS was arrested and charged, despite the fact that he had an alibi. The case went to jury trial. AS was found NOT GUILTY after a one week trial.

How did you build a successful practice?

I am responsive to client inquiries (according to my family, TOO responsive at times.). I have a track record that includes some spectacular victories for my clients, resulting from creativity and hard work. My entire practice was built on word-of-mouth until the last few years where the internet has become an important tool.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Honesty, integrity, skill, knowledge and a willingness to go the extra mile and work hard for the clients.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

There are certain cases where my knowledge of the local courts has been a major factor in achieving incredible dispositions. However, this is not the general rule. Usually, results are the result of WHAT you know, not WHO you know.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I prefer to meet people face-to-face, but can assess a person's legal situation in a free telephone consultation as well. From an accurate description of the problem I can usually advise about the best route to take to achieving a solution, the inherent risks in various strategies as well as being able to predict a range of outcomes.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

The charges, any prior convictions (e.g., criminal history), the facts as alleged by the prosecution and the relevant facts from the perspective of the defendant.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I have 25 years experience as a criminal defense lawyer, have conducted numerous jury trials, have filed and litigated hundreds of motions. My track record in terms of results obtained both from litigated matters as well as plea bargains is well above the median for criminal defense lawyers.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Getting a good result for my clients.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

My hobbies include scuba diving, playing tournament poker, skiing and computer technology.
