Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I recently resolved a very difficult case where the taxpayer had come to me after several years of dealing with a number of tax professionals. This was a complex audit where the taxpayer's formal IRS appeal rights had expired making it difficult for the IRS to adjust his liability. Through persistence and determination we were able to get the matter reviewed and resolved with the end result being the IRS adjusting his account and issuing the taxpayer a large refund.

How did you build a successful practice?

By the time I started my own practice I had already gained the necessary knowledge from working at a large accounting firm with a significant IRS Representation client base. The challenge was attracting clients, which I obtained largely through client and tax professional referrals. What has always worked for me is personal attention to each and every client. When a taxpayer hires me, I am the one handling the case from initial consultation to final resolution.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

First and foremost knowledge of the practice area. Compassion, and accessibility are also very important.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

In my opinion, very important. IRS tax representation is unique in that taxpayers are contacted by professionals all over the country competing for their business. While I have represented individuals and businesses in numerous states, my focus has always been to serve New Jersey taxpayers. I feel it is important for a client to be able to walk into their lawyer's office and discuss a matter is they so desire.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

During a phone consultation, I first determine whether I can help the prospective client by listening to the general facts of the case. I then provide a general explanation of options available. If we collectively decide to move forward, I will schedule a formal in-person (preferable) or telephonic consultation.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Just the basic facts of the case is usually sufficient. Copies of tax returns or IRS notices helps as well.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Personal attention to each and every case. I do not meet with a client and then push the file off to an associate. Every client also gets my personal cell phone number and is encouraged to call any time.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Obviously resolving a difficult tax matter. But also hearing clients tell me they feel better after our initial consult.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am kept busy raising my two beautiful daughter with my wife (who is also an attorney).
