About Marie
Marie Higuera is a Pacific Northwest native. She received her B.A. from Eastern Washington University and her law degree from the University of Washington. In the course of her studies, she also attended the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain.
Ms. Higuera has devoted her legal career to the practice of immigration law. In addition to practicing for a number of years at a leading immigration law firm in Seattle, she has worked as a staff attorney at the Seattle office of the renowned Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and at the Seattle University School of Law.
The law office of Marie Higuera emphasizes the representation of individuals in removal and deportation proceedings, and also provides representation and services in connection with affirmative applications for naturalization, family based immigration, asylum and related relief, and relief for survivors of domestic violence.
Ms. Higuera has an active pro bono practice. She and her staff provide direct representation to pro bono clients referred by the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and also participate in the University of Washington's Immigrant Family Advocacy Project. She speaks on immigration issues to the legal and immigrant communities of the Puget Sound area. Ms. Higuera and her staff also write an immigration law advice column for the weekly Spanish language newspaper, Raza del Noroeste.
Ms. Higuera speaks fluent Spanish. She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, and is admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Courts of Eastern and Western Washington. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild.
