About Marissa

Practicing since 2005, Marissa Elkins began her solo law practice in July, 2012.  Prior to striking out on her own, she was a partner in the Amherst law firm of Allison, Angier, Bartmon, Elkins, & Fernald, LLP and she began her career as a public defender, working as a staff attorney for the Northampton Superior Court office of the Massachusetts Committee for Public Counsel Services.

Marissa focuses her practice on criminal law, civil litigation, civil rights litigation, appellate advocacy, and personal injury.  She represents clients in Superior and District Court throughout Hampshire, Hampden, and Franklin Counties and has tried many cases to acquittal and successfully argued motions to suppress and dismiss resulting in favorable outcomes for clients.  Marissa is adept at handling a full range of criminal issues including murder, drug (possession, distribution, and trafficking), gun charges, OUI (driving under the influence), assault and battery, arson, sexual assault, larceny, and white collar crime. Marissa also represents clients in Federal District Court and argues appeals before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Massachusetts Court of Appeals.

Attorney Elkins is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is currently serving on that organization's Indigent Defense Committee.  She is also a member of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association.  

Marissa is an engaged member of the Pioneer Valley community.  She is currently serving on the Executive Committee of the Hampshire County Bar Association, taking on a leadership role in organizing the organization's annual fundraising event for the past two years.  Aside from her law career, Marissa is involved in the Valley's theater community.  She has been involved in numerous productions by Old Deerfield Productions as well as producing and directing her own projects.
