About Mark
Mark L. Block was born in 1959 in Passaic, New Jersey. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree with highest honors from the University of Tennessee in 1981, and his Juris Doctorate cum laude from Northwestern University in 1984. Mark was the President of his fraternity (Alpha Epsilon Pi) at the University of Tennessee, and was a member of the University's Debate Team (qualifying for the National Debate Tournament, for which the University had not sent a team in 28 years). At Northwestern, he served on the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology.
Mark practices in a broad range of complex business and employment litigation for diverse clientele, including motion picture studios, real estate developers, financial institutions, and various small businesses. He represented Paramount Pictures in a lawsuit which stopped a stereo equipment licensee from misusing the Paramount mark to promote its stock sales. Mark successfully defended a real estate developer against environmental (CEQA) claims brought by a coalition of residents, and then settled the petitioner's appeals to save the client millions of dollars which would otherwise have arisen from further delay of the project. He obtained a "walk away" settlement for defendants sued by a bankruptcy trustee for an alleged $35 million fraudulent transfer. Mark has represented numerous employer clients in sexual harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuits. He is currently defending a major talent agency in a class action age discrimination lawsuit brought by television writers.
Mark's other activities include being a member of the Westwood Village Rotary Club, where he has served as the Chairman of the International, Vocational and Youth Service Committees. He has also been active with Temple Menorah, serving on its Board of Trustees and providing it with pro bono legal representation.
Mark resides in Manhattan Beach with his wife, Marjie, and their three sons.
