Notable Work
On his motorcycle driving to work, an ironworker was struck by an out-of-control car. Attorney Sweet was able to help locate the originator of the accident, a semi-truck which struck the uninsured owner of the car, by matching paint transfers on vehicles and speaking with the other passengers in the uninsured driver’s car. After obtaining a life care expert and calculating the future loss of earnings to the injured client, a settlement in excess of $1,000,000.00 was obtained from the semi-truck driver’s company. A trust fund and structured annuity were also established for the client’s children.
Don’t drink and drive. That’s what Attorney Sweet’s client thought to himself as he was walking home from a tavern on a very cold January night. He was not driving his car home, he was doing the right thing. He was walking on the dirt and gravel edge of the road when a Mack-truck crossed the fog line and struck him on the left side of his body. He was thrown through the air in excess of fifty feet into a snow bank where he lay until he was found. A passerby found his hat and a shoe in the middle of the road and stopped to assist. Attorney Sweet was able to track the truck and driver down in order to make a claim. His client suffered multiple rib fractures, lacerated spleen, fractures of his tibia and fibula, left elbow, right orbital fracture and closed head injuries. After a year and half of litigation the case was settled by the company that owned the truck for close to One million dollars.
A young man was found by friends floating face down in his apartment complex pool. He suffered a C 2-3 cervical burst fracture and was left with a permanent drop foot and substantial limitations to the use of his right arm and leg. The witnesses saw only that he dove into the pool. After months of indecision, the young man’s attorney referred the matter to Attorney Sweet. Attorney Sweet located a nationally-known expert who helped to determine that the design of the pool, its shallow depths, and lack of adequate warnings were a nuisance and it was negligent of the property owner to operate. Despite statute of limitations issues resulting from the indecision of the young man’s original attorney, the matter was settled on the eve of trial for more than $750,000.00.
A local Assisted Living facility planned an outing for 24 residents and staff to take a bus ride to the Milwaukee Domes. It was a bright and sunny day. Attorney Sweet represented the interests of 7 passengers and the driver of the bus as a result of a tragic head on collision caused by a commercial van crossing the centerline and colliding head on with the passenger bus. Attorney Sweet helped his clients and their loved ones recover over 5.3 million dollars.
