Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Very often cases that I get involved and deal with probate administration. Many times family members come to our office and ask for assistance having very little idea of what needs to be done to finalize the affairs of a loved one who has passed away and then the make sure that estate assets are transferred to family members of the decedent. Very often people are distraught and confused and need help to assure that all things can be worked out. We always make sure to take the time to explain your clients how to handle this to call process in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

How did you build a successful practice?

Building a successful practice can be done when an attorney takes the time to listen to clients concerns and work with them when they are dealing with difficult issues. Very often those clients stay with us for very long period of time and refer friends and family members to us to assist with the estate planning and other issues as well.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

A client should look for an lawyer that they're comfortable with. That is, it's important to have an initial consultation and have the feeling at the end of the meeting that the attorney that they're talking to is someone that they know they'll trust with the most important of their legal affairs.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

In respect of the type of worker law firm deals with having an understanding of Texas law and more specifically the nuances related to representation of clients who have probate and other related cases in a statutory probate court requires a greater level of knowledge than most general practitioners would have in respect of practicing in this area of law.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Information provided in the free consultation includes a brief analysis of the case suggestions on how to proceed. We are always concerned with trying to find the most effective way to handle a legal case while also being concerned about the cost associated with any legal matter.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Depending upon the situation the information that's needed can vary. When someone calls and to schedule the appointment they're welcome to ask the firm receptionist what information they should bring with them. Because our focus is in estate planning, probate administration and elder law information about the individual who would need court intervention is helpful to review prior to ordering the consultation.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

What differentiates our firm from others is that our primary focus is in the area of estate planning, probate administration and elder law related issues. Many local attorneys advertise that they handle those types of matters but very often their focus is on personal injury law or general practice.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

When we help people who are dealing with a difficult issue, very often the death of a friend or family member, we take great satisfaction in being able to provide counseling and help our clients deal with issues related to resolving what can be very difficult matters for people to deal understand and deal with.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I am involved in a variety of civic activities. I have been a member and chairman of four advisory boards located in the city of McAllen. I have been a member of several civic organizations including the Rotary club and Estate Planning Council. I have served as president of both those organizations. I'm currently serving as vice chairman of a state board that oversees social workers in the State of Texas. Finally, I'm involved in nonprofit activities and serve legal advisor or assist in any way I can with their activities.
