Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

On behalf of my client, the City of Muscatine, I appealed a decision to the Iowa Supreme Court and won. The decision severely limited the ability of the Department of Transportation to impose rules and regulations on the citizens and cities of Iowa. In addition, the decision saved my clients hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

How did you build a successful practice?

Slowly. My practice built itself over a number of years; however, it helped to give presentations across Iowa on a number of legal topics.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Someone who responds timely to messages and someone who actually practices in the area you need help with.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Very important as sometimes it matters more that you know the judge than that you know the law.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I provide all new clients with a free consultation that can address basic issues and can allow me to get the information necessary to assist with more complicated problems.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Names of all the parties and a description of all the relevant issues.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I use technology to my clients' benefit-allowing me to reduce the amount of legal work required and to increase the response time to client questions.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping people resolve problems that seemed unsolvable when I first meet with them.

Are you involved in your community?

I have been very involved in my community over the years with everything from serving on the City Council to starting a charity that-to date-has raised over twenty million dollars for children with cancer.
