Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
This was actually several years ago, but it is a moment I will never forget. My first jury trial was in a criminal case that I felt should have never been filed as I strongly believed my client was innocent of the charges alleged. At the end of a two-day trial the jury reached a unanimous verdict finding my client not guilty, and it felt amazing to see the justice system work for my client.
How did you build a successful practice?
I put clients first and make sure that clients have an open and ongoing line of communication with me. I have now been in business for 8 years thanks to hard work and happy clients who continue to refer me to others in need of a lawyer.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
The most important thing is to hire a lawyer you are comfortable with and not someone that appears to push you into making an uninformed decision. Personal experience with a lawyer\'s work either direct or through a trusted referral is normally the best indicator for hiring a good lawyer. However, most people hiring a lawyer don\'t have the luxury of personal experience so here are some guides: 1. Make sure that they lawyer you think your hiring will actually be the lawyer on your case and that you have a direct line of communication with that specific lawyer. If the lawyer does not give you a direct cell phone number, that is normally a bad sign! 2. Check the lawyer's law school! There are over 200 law schools in the country, which includes many law schools that are not accredited or do not have the same academic rigorous requirements to graduate. Although the strength of the law school does not determine the strength of an attorney, knowing the law school can still be a good tool when deciding to hire an attorney. Arizona is fortunate to be home to two top law schools consistently ranked among the best in the country in ASU and UofA. 3. Check a lawyer's social media. Does the lawyer have any videos that include speaking content that gives you an idea how you will be represented?
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Every jurisdiction is a little bit different so having prior experience in the particular court I am representing a client is important in guiding a client on what to expect.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
The cost of hiring me, the steps of the court process, the approximate time it takes to resolve a case, and the value of hiring me. For injury cases, I can help describe what is needed to recover and maximize the recovery. I offer free in-person or phone consultations so clients can make an informed decision before deciding to hire me.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Client\'s name, date of the incident, location, type of case, other party, client\'s date of birth.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Extensive courtroom experience and well-versed in updates in the law. I put my clients first and I am not afraid to be in court and go to trial if that\'s best for my client. I also have heard horror stories of many injury attorneys that will refuse to file a case in court and instead hand it off to another attorney. This seems to be particularly the case with billboard attorneys some of which are not even licensed in the state they advertise in.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I love working with people, which reflects my practice area of representing individuals in a criminal defense case or personal injury where the opposing party is the State or an insurance company.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Travel, movies, and chess
Are you involved in your community?
I am a member of The Maricopa County Bar Association and stay connected with alumni events through Brophy and Boston College.
