Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
In the last year I am pleased to have helped clients with many critical legal issues including the following: a. A young man had a tragic car accident where he hit a pedestrian and his driver's license was revoked by the Registry of Motor vehicles. We went before an appeals board and I successfully argued that the accident was not a result or negligence, intoxication, or any unlawful activity, but simply a sad, tragic accident. The registry restored my client's license within three weeks. b. A client bought a used car from an unscrupulous dealer. The car had major mechanical issues almost immediately. The ""car dealer"" did not have a true place of business, but placed ads on the internet and met prospective clients at an off-site location. I sent a G.L. c. 93a demand letter pursuant to consumer protection law in Massachusetts and was able to get my client compensation for all repairs needed to make the car operational, safe, and within Massachusetts State Inspection laws and regulations. c. This year I successfully defended clients in a range of criminal charges such as assault with a dangerous weapon, drug possession and distribution, violation of a restraining order, operating under the influence of alcohol, and malicious destruction of property over the value of $250.
How did you build a successful practice?
I built a successful practice by treating each client's legal issue as if it were my own or a close family member's. I explore all reasonable options and possible outcomes with the client before I begin any legal action. I make every effort to keep my clients informed, educated, and prepared for the legal process. My approach to any problem is analytical and conservative, but ultimately, the client decides their ideal outcome and what level or risk they are comfortable with. I won Avvo Clients' Choice Awards for 2017 and 2018 for outstanding client reviews and was selected by my peers and Thompson Reuters as a 2018 Super Lawyer Rising Star. My online reviews on Google, Avvo, Better Business Bureau, Yelp, and Facebook speak for themselves.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look at a lawyer's online client reviews, rating, and reviews by other lawyers, and his or her Board of Bar Overseers disciplinary record. In addition, clients should look for real world experience outside of law so that the attorney can see obvious, practical, solutions to legal problems. Experience in business as an employee, owner, parent, consultant, volunteer efforts and charitable work in the community are signs that the attorney understands real-world issues and can fashion a practical, cost-effective, solution to a range of legal issues. Attorneys who graduate from law school at age 24 and practice law without ever working in other fields and industries, have a myopic approach to their practice and may overlook obvious, effective solutions to a legal matter.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is one of the most important factors in successful legal representation. Local court rules, customs, social norms, etiquette, and experience working with key personnel make an attorney's representation efficient and effective.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
A free phone consultation is important for the attorney to determine whether they can help you with your legal matter or refer you to another qualified attorney. It is especially important for clients to understand that attorneys cannot be an expert in every practice area. A good attorney will tell a prospective client upfront if he or she is not qualified to take on that matter but will provide a name and contact number for an attorney they trust in that area.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
In a free phone consultation, I need a basic understanding of the facts of the legal issue, some personal client background, and a general idea of the client's ideal goal or outcome for the issue presented.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
What differentiates me from other lawyers is the fact that I became an attorney much later in life and bring my real-world experiences to my practice, which allows me to see legal problems from many angles and fashion practical, effective solutions.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job that I see the results of my hard work in the way my clients are relieved of all the stress that their case has caused. I like to keep my clients informed, educated, and involved in their legal issue. I give their case 110 percent of my effort and explore all reasonable solutions. However, I am honest with my analysis of the possible, probable, and realistic outcomes of their case.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I love technology and try to incorporate state of the art computer, software, and office management tools to provide make my time more efficient for my clients. My nine-year-old daughter Grace is my whole world and I cherish every moment I spend with her. I love to be outside hiking, cycling, and walking my dog Ruby. I enjoy learning history, especially local history. I believe history is important. I believe it is true, for better or for worse, that history repeats itself.
Are you involved in your community?
I have been a Suffolk County Bar Advocate for four years. I represent indigent criminal clients in Suffolk County. As a Bar Advocate I have helped many clients and their families through potentially life-changing legal matters. I feel satisfied and happy when my hard work benefits those less fortunate and they can return to work and family life without permanent legal consequences. I have also volunteered time and resources to Pine Street Inn and Perkins School for the Blind.
