About Max
Max Maccoby concentrates in civil litigation in the areas of commercial disputes, such as breach of contract and employment matters, in malpractice and negligence actions, in securities and commodities fiduciary misconduct cases, in personal injury, product liability and property damage actions, and represents white-collar criminal defendants. He also represents whistle-blowers in government false claims "qui tam" cases, where he represents whistle-blowers in bringing actions against a company which is stealing or misappropriating money from the government.
Mr. Maccoby was previously a Cook County Assistant State's Attorney in Chicago, Illinois for eight years, where he was lead counsel or co-counsel in thirty-one jury trials and hundreds of bench trials, including murders, attempt murders, sex assaults, reckless homicides, drunk driving, embezzlements, bank fraud, and other assorted financial crimes. In those trials, Mr. Maccoby offered DNA, medical, ballistic, fingerprint, and accounting expert testimony. He has been qualified by the Capital Litigation Trial Bar of Illinois to try death penalty cases.
Mr. Maccoby graduated with a B.A. from the University of Chicago, and obtained his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law, where he received the Excellence in Jurisprudence of Human Rights Award. He is admitted to practice in the states of Illinois, Maryland, and the District of Columbia and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland, the District Court for the District of Columbia, and the Northern District of Illinois, as well as various federal courts throughout the country on a pro hac vice basis. He sits on the board of directors for the nonprofit charity Friends of the Orphans and is an advocate for their cause.
