About Sue-Del

I have practiced Employment Law in Oregon and Southwest Washington for over twenty years, helping employees with Racial Discrimination, Employment Rights, Sex and Sexual Orientation Discrimination, Workplace Harassment, Employment Contracts, and other Employment-related issues.

Please describe a case(s) in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I hope and believe that my work in civil courts and administrative agencies regularly makes a big difference to my clients. I represent plaintiff Kathryn Scrivener in an age discrimination case in Vancouver, WA, in which I appealed the grant of summary judgment to the Washington Supreme Court and prevailed, clarifying the summary judgment standard for employment discrimination cases. https://www.courts.wa.gov/opinions/pdf/893772.pdf http://ccbawashington.org/hearsay/2014_10_Hearsay.pdf#page=26 I recently represented pharmacists in both Oregon and Washington in administrative proceedings with the result that they retained their licenses and continued employment, and represented a client through the federal EEO process to address improper pay in a federal agency.

How did you build a successful practice?
I am passionate about the law and how it can protect my clients, and I focus on what is the best overall result for the client.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Someone they can trust and whose counsel they can accept, who understands the law and the pressures facing that individual client.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
I think it is very important and it is an intrinsic part of what I bring to my practice. I have practiced throughout Oregon for over 20 years. I am a fourth generation Oregonian, with lawyers and loggers, artists and machinists in my local family tree, so whether I represent transgender clients seeking freedom from discrimination in accommodation, African American clients fighting race discrimination in employment, or a southern Oregon truck company that is having land condemned, I understand the local dynamics and apply that to defuse unnecessary pressures. I also know and have a good reputation with a large percentage of the employment bar in Oregon and SW Washington, and the judiciary and the eminent domain attorneys in Oregon.

I have a fairly comprehensive phone interview process then set a meeting or help the potential client find other options.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
My local connections and the fact that in both of the areas in which I practice, employment law and eminent domain, I have represented parties on both sides.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Advocating for my clients and protecting them through potentially overwhelming processes.

What are your other interests in addition to law?
Family, music, environment.

Are you involved in your community?
Local school and environmental advocacy; sing in the Portland Symphonic Choir.
