About Michael

My legal career began over 20 years ago as an Assistant State Attorney, prosecuting criminals in all manners of offenses, from petty crimes to capital homicides. Eventually reaching the position of supervising prosecution of white collar crime and elderly exploitation crimes, I relished the opportunity to obtain justice for the helpless and the defenseless in the community.

I honed my advocacy skills through the next decade, representing individuals in numerous areas of law and an expanding list of venues.

As a partner in a large firm focused on representing individuals, I took over the Social Security Disability Department. I saw firsthand that, from coast to coast of our great country, the disabled were the most underrepresented and vulnerable citizens, struggling to secure the benefits that they had spent their working lives earning, only to encounter a system that was so complex, so difficult to navigate that they had little hope of securing their benefits, even when the evidence was strongly supporting their claims. I set out to put the most experienced, skilled advocates on their cases, matching and surpassing whatever the Government could do to deny their claims.

The plan was successful. Awards of disability benefits increased. When faced with strategic, organized case presentations, the government no longer had a defenseless applicant in front of them. Claims and benefits that would have otherwise been denied were approved.

Today, over twenty-five years and thousands of clients later, I am proud to say that we represent claimants in every state across this great nation. Our process for developing and preparing our client’s cases affords them the greatest chance at success in an extraordinarily difficult process.

We employ procedures that go beyond what many representatives provide to ensure that everything possible has been done to bring about a successful outcome.

Every case, every client is personal to us at The Michael Reese Law Firm. We will be prepared. We will have the best personnel, and we will not stop until justice has been done.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I represented an individual for injuries sustained while working. Not only were there medical expenses that climbed into the millions of dollars, but it was also clear from his injuries that he would never work again. We were able to secure disability benefits through the Social Security Administration as well as a settlement of his Workers' Compensation claim that would allow for his ongoing medical treatment and replacement of his lost income. He'll never be the same as he was before the accident, but he has his dignity and his family and looks forward to a long life with them.

How did you build a successful practice?

No matter what particular area of law it might involve, a hallmark of my practice is a commitment to protecting my clients. I have always believed that I would be rewarded with no shortage of clients by providing exceptional service and representation. People appreciate and value a working relationship in which they have confidence and trust and I endeavor to provide that for them every day.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Hiring a lawyer typically means securing the services of someone with a specific set of skills and expertise in an area. Talk with the attorney. Ask them about their practice area. Do they sound like an expert? Can they confidently answer your questions? Make certain that you are comfortable with the relationship at the time of engagement.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Depending on the practice area, local knowledge can be invaluable. A local practitioner can help expedite a matter by knowing the unique requirements of courts and Judicial officials, as well as physicians specializing in the treatment of specific conditions. However, local knowledge will not ever be an adequate substitute for professional competency. I've been fortunate to represent clients throughout the United States and can state with absolute certainty that professionalism and skill are always welcome no matter the jurisdiction.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Our initial conversation is an opportunity to accomplish many different things. Obviously, I want to learn about your case, your needs as well as your expectations. You should also have an opportunity to meet me and become comfortable with my skill set as well as my business. While we won't be able to delve too deeply into the specifics of your case, we should both conclude the conversation with a clear understanding of the issues and sufficient information to make a decision on whether we can proceed in your case.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

The most important information I am looking for in an initial consultation is whether or not I can reasonably be of professional help to you. Most of my questions will focus on the facts and circumstances of your matter. My goal is to conclude our call having gained sufficient information to determine whether or not I can effectively represent you in your matter.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

At this point in my legal career, I can confidently state that my experience is consistently one of my most positive attributes. I have, due to that experience a level of confidence in my abilities that very few can rival.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Without question, the most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing the effect that a positive outcome of the case can have on my clients. While not every case is focused on financial compensation, What that compensation provides is oftentimes significantly more valuable than the dollar figure. It provides hope, dignity, and a future.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Over the years, I have been fortunate to have opportunities to handle legal matters for clients in nearly all 50 states. Associated with that has been an exposure to magnificent parts of the country. I sincerely enjoy traveling and experiencing the local atmosphere in so many different unique places. When not working, I am an avid golfer and enjoy many different outdoor activities. Of course, having the opportunity to share these experiences with my family is a wonderful benefit as well.

Are you involved in your community?

I am extraordinarily fortunate to live in a wonderful part of this great state. I enjoy the opportunity to share my professional skills and give back to the community that has been so generous to me. Whether involved with my children's school or assisting local charitable organizations, I do as much as I can to make this community a better place for all of us.
