About Miguel

My name is Miguel Mondragon. I am a Colorado native and enjoy all the many opportunities this great state has to offer. I was raised in Pueblo and understand the value of hard work and making an honest living. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and began a career in county government. My passion for the law and a desire to seek justice grew as I observed private citizens being marginalized by the legal system. I decided the best way to bring about change was in the courtroom. After many long nights in discussion with my supportive wife, I moved my family to South Dakota and attended the University of South Dakota School of Law.
While in law school, I took full advantage of the many activities there was to offer. As a member of the South Dakota Trial Advocacy Team, I competed nationally in trial competitions that sharpened my litigation skills. My leadership skills were enhanced when I served as Dean of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. In my role as president of the Federalist Society, I met with Supreme Court Justices, Judges, Law School Deans and Attorneys from around the nation to discuss the current legal issues facing law school students. I was a member of the Law School Defenders Society, the RD Hurd Pro Bono Project, the South Dakota Innocence Project, and the Legal Law Help Line—all of which assisted low-income citizens in obtaining legal assistance.
I interned with East River Legal Services assisting indigent citizens of eastern South Dakota with civil legal matters in the area of family law and landlord-tenant issues. I also interned with the Colorado State Public Defenders Office where I represented Coloradans facing criminal charges. I was successful in defending several clients accused of various criminal charges.
When not working with clients and growing my practice, I love spending time with my family and friends.
I am a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Larimer County Bar Association, the Weld County Bar Association, the Young Lawyers Division and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. My current areas of practice include family law, divorce, legal separation, child custody, modifications of child support and spousal maintenance, contract review, landlord/tenant disputes, residential lease drafting, estate planning, criminal defense, traffic infractions, DUI, and driving under revocation.
