Defeated a fraudulent conveyance, enabling my client to take title to a valuable piece of property.
How did you build a successful practice?
Grit and hustle -- I'm dedicated to my practice, and sometimes that means long hours and personal sacrifice. But it's worth it when clients appreciate the efforts you've spent.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Honesty, candidness, and a personality you can work with. Also communication style -- if you want frequent updates or a lot of one-on-one engagement, I would recommend making that clear upfront.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Certainly, it helps to have local knowledge; however, in the estate and business formation contexts, having global knowledge may actually be more important! Minnesota and California do not offer asset protection trusts, and they are not considered favorable states for business formation. Hence, we can look at asset protection states like South Dakota, Delaware, or Alaska and offshore jurisdictions like the Cook Islands or Nevis.

The outline of an estate plan or a general impression of the likelihood of success in a litigation matter.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Clear facts. For an estate consult, what are your assets? Who do you wish to inherit your assets? Do you have concerns about their ability to manage money? For other matters, the basics: who, what, where, when, how. For instance, who did you have a contract with, what was it for, where did you enter the agreement, when were you and the other party expected to perform, and what was the expected performance?
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have accrued a breadth of experience in my career. I pivoted from a land use focus early in my career to civil litigation and then to my current practice focused on business and estate matters.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Giving clients a sense of security.
