Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I represented a 45 year old man who was in deportation proceedings because he had been convicted for aggravated assault. He was a Honduran national who had come to the United States when he was 6 years old. His case was further complicated by a series of convictions for drug possession and other minor crimes. After being detained for one year, the immigration judge granted his release. This was a complex case which took skill to win. I represented an Ecuadorian gentleman at his naturalization proceedings. He had multiple arrests which caused a setback in his getting citizenship. His was eventually granted citizenship by presenting the necessary information. I represent an IT consulting firm who employs skilled foreign nationals to work in the United States. In these cases, the employer must file a petition for the new employee. USCIS often requests additional evidence before granting the petition. The requests for evidence often require skilled arguments to convince USCIS to approve the petition. I have had many such cases approved after submitting well-argued responses to USCIS.
How did you build a successful practice?
I am an immigrant like most of my clients and relate to their concerns. I am diligent in handling every case which has been the foundation of my success, and the reason clients refer me to their relatives and friends. My law firm has grown through the best referral source -- word of mouth.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
An initial meeting with the lawyer and not just the paralegal or support staff. A level of comfort with the lawyer. Does the lawyer appear trustworthy? The lawyer's level of experience in cases like yours. The lawyer's responsiveness to your initial questions. Whether the lawyer will pay close attention to your case.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Knowing the judges' demeanor and prior rulings and having had prior working experience with prosecutors is invaluable.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Limited information based on the known facts of the case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
An Initial Consultation Agreement must be signed first. An email stating the facts of the case before the phone consultation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I am an immigrant like most of my clients and relate to their concerns. I am diligent in handling every case which has been the foundation of my success, and the reason clients refer me to their relatives and friends. My law firm has grown through the best referral source -- word of mouth.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Getting the result my client wants and helping the immigrant community.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Movies, foreign movies especially. Playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles. Writing. Watching tennis.
Are you involved in your community?
I serve on the Hackensack Planning Board and am a member of the Hackensack Chamber of Commerce. I live in Hackensack and attend local community events.
