Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

In a case involving a child suffering from Autism - his mother contacted me when her son's benefits were terminated. She could not find assistance because of her son's age and the difficulty of his diagnosis. She was referred to me by a local attorney. I was able to work with her son's teachers and secure updated medical information to demonstrate his ongoing disability. His benefits were reinstated and he continues to receive much needed benefits.

How did you build a successful practice?

We have built a successful practice by not being afraid to take difficult cases and by putting in the time in each case - learning about or client's medical history, securing the necessary medical information and working with doctors, therapists and other medical providers to put together the best possible case for our clients.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

In the area of Social Security disability, local knowledge is very important. We know the Administrative Law Judges - their individual hearing styles, hearing questions and preferences.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

During a free phone consultation we provide educational information - how to file an application, what to do if you receive a denial letter, what the differences are in Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), what "disability means," how an Administrative Law Judge reviews a case and makes a decision, etc.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

To get the most out of a free phone consultation, we need: the individuals age, education, the type of work they have done in the past 15 years, when they last worked, why they stopped working, the medical conditions that prevent them from working and a list of their medical providers.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

What differentiates me from other lawyers in the community - my interaction with my clients and my involvement with groups like the Autism Society and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - I believe it is very important to learn about and receive updated information on the medical conditions that impact our clients and to learn from professionals in these areas about the most recent medical studies, treatments, etc.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding aspect is securing benefits for my clients - especially those who tell me they were ready to give up hope. Securing benefits that allows a client to secure needed treatment or medications - or simply allowing them to pay rent or help provide for their family - I cannot describe that feeling.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Spending time with my family; running; animal rescue; reading sand music.

Are you involved in your community?

President of Board of Directors -National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) -York County; Junior Achievement Volunteer; volunteer for local animal rescue; pro bono representation
