Roy L. Mason has been practicing law for more than 40 years. He served as Senior Partner at Montedonico & Mason, a firm of approximately 50 lawyers, and became managing partner of Mason, Ketterman & Cawood, which later became Mason, Cawood & Hobbs. In 2010, Roy founded The Law Offices of Roy L. Mason, PA, which he ran successfully until 2015, when he founded Smouse & Mason, LLC with Russ Smouse. He has been rated at the AV Preeminent level by his peers through Martindale-Hubbell for more than 25 years. He has been named one of the top 100 trial lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers and has been selected as a member of the Super Lawyer group since it began. Roy has been leading environmental litigation on behalf of individuals and communities in multiple states and cities for more than two decades. More recently he has participated in national and international environmental litigation. His cases have ranged from coal ash air and water contamination, leaking underground gasoline storage tanks, Natural Resource Damages and the anthropogenic contribution to climate change. In addition to serving as a member of Smouse & Mason, LLC, Roy serves on the board of the Chesapeake Legal Alliance, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to using the law to improve the quality of the Chesapeake Bay.

Attorney Ryan Zabel is committed to fighting for justice for his clients, whether they have been wrongfully injured or are facing criminal charges. Mr. Zabel was born and raised in North Carolina where he attended Appalachian State University for his undergraduate degree. After working in the commercial door and hardware industry for nine years, Mr. Zabel moved to Maryland to pursue his JD, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Zabel was a member of the Royal Graham Shannonhouse Honor Society. Mr. Zabel also served as a Staff Editor on the University of Baltimore Law Forum. During law school Mr. Zabel represented clients as a Rule 19 attorney through the Human Trafficking Prevention Project Clinic. After graduating from law school, Mr. Zabel secured a position as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Anthony Vittoria in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. During his clerkship, Mr. Zabel conducted research, drafted opinions and orders, and assisted the Judge in all aspects of both civil and criminal trials. Following his clerkship, Mr. Zabel worked at a firm specializing in professional malpractice defense. Mr. Zabel then moved on to his next endeavor as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County. While working as a prosecutor, Mr. Zabel prosecuted thousands of major motor vehicle and misdemeanor criminal cases. In addition to handling a significant volume of cases which allowed him to hone his trial skills, Mr. Zabel was also entrusted with the training of incoming attorneys.
