For almost 30 years, Attorney Michael DuPree has represented individuals and clients in a wide variety of criminal, civil, and business matters.
Mr. DuPree is a Charleston native who grew up on James Island in Charleston County. He played football for Fort Johnson High School and was also a member of the Wrestling and Track teams.
In 1985, Mr. DuPree graduated Cum Laude from Newberry College — a small liberal arts college outside of Columbia, South Carolina. While in attendance, he was a member of the Blue Key Honor Society and Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. The following year, he started at University of South Carolina Law School, graduating in 1988. While at USC, Mr. DuPree was a member of Phi Beta Phi Legal Fraternity.
In 1988, Mr. Dupree was admitted to bar and began his career as Assistant Solicitor with the Charleston County Solicitor’s, where he served for 14 years. During his tenure, in 1997 he was admitted to the U.S. District Court. While he was a prosecutor for the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s office Mr. DuPree successfully tried and won State v. Fowler and State v. DuPree, these cases became case law in the State of South Carolina. Also, Mr. DuPree was qualified and nominated by the Legislative Delegation and Judiciary Screening Committee, screened by the Citizens Committee and Judiciary Screening Committee, as well as passing a test for the positions in 2003 for Master-In- Equity and also Qualified for Circuit Court Judge.
In 2003, Mr. DuPree started his private practice firm on James Island and in West Ashley. Five years later he was admitted into the U.S. Court of Appeals. Mr. DuPree is a member of the following organization: ABA (American Bar Association), SCADL, South Carolina Association for Justice, Lawyers Helping Lawyers, and the SC Bar Mentoring Program. His primary practice areas include DUI and criminal defense, personal injury, automobile and motorcycle accidents, medical malpractice, workers compensation, wrongful death, social security and general litigation.
In his personal time, Mr. DuPree enjoys enjoys hunting, surfing, playing guitar, reading, as well as working out daily at the gym. He is a former Parish Council Member at the Greek Orthodox Church in downtown Charleston and is a member of the Men’s Choir. He is also a former Board Member of the Hemangioma Birth Defect Board and currently, he is part of the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) who represents Police Officers.
