QUESTIONNAIRE
People v. Ahmed, 25 Cal.App.5th 136 (2018). I was able to reverse Mr. Ahmed's conviction and establish that Medical Cannabis Dispensaries were not required to be in full compliance with local ordinances to be considered legal under state law.
How did you build a successful practice?By doing this for over 30 years.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?Someone with experience in the area and who is willing and able to spend time with the client, explain the process, and answer any questions.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?Not that critical. Often, an out of town attorney can be an advantage because he/she can fight strenuously for the client's rights without having to worry about working with the same prosecutor or judge on other cases. More important is an attorney's knowledge of the relevant area of the law.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?I am always willing to discuss a client's matter, explain the process and answer basic questions without charge.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?Where and when the client was arrested and the circumstances surrounding the arrest
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?I've been doing this for over 30 years.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?Extricating medical cannabis patients out of the criminal justice system. Getting and keeping people out of jail.
What are your other interests in addition to law?Music. I play guitar and sing in a couple of bands. I also build and repair guitars.
Are you involved in your community?I was on the Board of Directors for NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) for six years. I am currently on the Board of Directors and am State Legal Coordinator for California NORML.
