About Patrick

PERSONAL BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION
I live in Elburn, Kane County, Illinois, with my wife, Lori, and my three children, Bailey, Ryan and Nora.

I graduated from St. Charles High School in St. Charles, Illinois in 1979.  I then attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, from which I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1983.  Then I attended the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, where he received his juris doctor degree in 1986.

PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS AND EXPERIENCE

Following graduation from law school, I worked as an associate at the law firm of Clancy & McGuirk, P.C., in St. Charles, Illinois.  While there, I worked on several complex wrongful death cases, including an explosion at the Union Oil refinery in Lemont, Illinois, where several people were killed.  I worked on personal injury cases, medical malpractice cases, product and premises liability cases, and workmen's compensation cases.  I also performed extensive appellate work.

I left Clancy & McGuirk to become an Assistant State's Attorney at the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, where I remained for twelve years or so.  As a prosecutor, I prosecuted all types of criminal complaints and indictments from the most minor to capital (death penalty) murder cases.  I tried approximately twenty-six first degree murder cases and qualified two defendants for the death penalty.  I was the first and last director of the gang prosecution unit which, during his tenure, had an average conviction rate of higher than ninety per cent.

I was also the Director of the Kane Country Child Advocacy Center, which is charged with investigation and prosecuting allegations of child abuse.

I was the prosecutor who authorized criminal charges against the couple who left their children "Home Alone" while they vacationed in Mexico.

Since 2001, I have had the honor of being associated with Brady&Jensen in the trial division of the firm.

AWARDS AND HONORS

In 1992, I was honored with the award of Outstanding Prosecutor of the Year from then Kane County State's Attorney Gary V. Johnson.

In 2000, I received the St. Charles High School Distinguished Alumni Award.  At that time, then St. Charles Mayor Sue Klinkhamer honored me with the key to the City of St. Charles.

I continue my membership in the Kane County Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, and Illinois Trial lawyer's Association.

I continue my active involvement in the Mock Trial program at St. Charles North High School.

I concentrate my practice in all forms of litigation and trial practice and I consider myself a "trial lawyer".
