Patrick Mahaney is a criminal defense attorney in with offices in Montgomery, Alabama, concentrating his practice in defense of driving under the influence (DUI), criminal defense, drug possession/controlled substances violations, and driver license issues. Mr. Mahaney established his law office in July 2006 after completing five and half years of overseas service for the U.S. government. Mr. Mahaney has been licensed to practice law for twenty-seven (27) years.

Prior to establishing his law practice, Mr. Mahaney served twenty-two (22) years as a state trooper with the Alabama Department of Public Safety (1978-2000), including duty in uniform patrol, criminal investigations, and as assistant legal counsel for the Department. After retirement from state service, Mr. Mahaney served overseas with the U.S. State Department's civilian police operations in Kosovo, Jordan, and Iraq, including 18 months in Iraq as the deputy commander of the U.S. police mission.

In addition to Mr. Mahaney's state police service, Mr. Mahaney served twenty-eight (28) years in the United States Army, including four years in the Regular Army and twenty-four years in the National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in May 1973 and attended training as an infantry officer at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Mr. Mahaney qualified as airborne and ranger and later served in Army Special Operations and light infantry units. He was honorably retired in June 2001 as a lieutenant colonel, United States Army Reserve, after 28 years of military service in the United States Army.

Mr. Mahaney received his B.A. degree from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. and his law degree from Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama. He is licensed to practice law in all Alabama courts and the Alabama Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Mahaney has represented hundreds of clients in courts throughout central Alabama charged with DUI, criminal offenses, drug possession, traffic violations, and related criminal proceedings. His success rate and skill as a criminal defense attorney is highly regarded by members of the bench and bar. Mr. Mahaney is the author of the treatise Alabama DUI, Traffic, and Driver License Law Handbook, now in third edition printing.

Mr. Mahaney is an active member of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (ACDLA) as well as the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD). Mr. Mahaney currently serves as state delegate for the National College for DUI Defense. In 2009, 2010, 2012, and again in 2014, Mr. Mahaney received the President's Award from the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association for outstanding achievement.
