Questions & Answers
How did you build a successful practice?
I built a successful practice by calling upon the experience and knowledge gained while working for over 5 years as an attorney with the US INS (the precursor to the current DHS / USCIS / US ICE agencies), and by applying these skills to the problems faced by people dealing with complex immigration related issues.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Knowledge, experience and positive referrals from previous clients are important. Also, a client should feel comfortable in dealing with an attorney, and should feel that the attorney understands the client's problems, has dealt with similar problems in the past, and is capable of resolving the problems successfully. Perhaps most importantly, the attorney should be responsive to the client - promptly returning telephone calls and responding to emails.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is very important - knowing who to speak to and how to contact him/her when problems arise is vital.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I can provide a brief overview of the steps that might be taken to help the client, and also (and just as important) I can advise the client if there is nothing that can be done. Since immigration is such a complex area of law, it is not always possible to provide these details without an in-person consultation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
My 35+ years of experience in immigration law, including over 5 years as an attorney with the US INS, set me apart from most other immigration lawyers in the area.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping people negotiate the maze of our county's immigration laws successfully, and establish themselves and their families in the U.S., is very rewarding. Reuniting families, helping employers get visas for key employees, and successfully defending people in deportation cases are just some examples of what makes this area of law so interesting.
Are you involved in your community?
I have been very active in my community (I live and work in the same town where I grew up and went to school). I have been active in the PTA, in coaching youth sports clubs, and in serving for 6 years on the local Board of Education.
