Wrangling Over Khadr's Counsel Shows Discretionary Power of Military Judges, JURIST
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Hard to say. There have been any number. I could say that I have about five cases right now where I have been contacted very early, at the time of the law enforcement investigation. I have then been able to use my experience to get charges dropped.
How did you build a successful practice?
By reputation as honest, hard working, and ethical. I get a significant number of referrals from colleagues, former clients, and in several instances members of the jury or witnesses from a prior trial.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Integrity, and the ability and willingness to be honest about how they will work to help the client, and the chances of success.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
It depends. But I generally try to get an understanding of the client, of the basic facts, where the case is in the process, and the types of issues and approaches I might see. My initial free consults range from 10 minutes to an hour to provide what the potential client needs.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Location of the client, their rank, the general nature of the accusations, whether they are under investigation or have been charged, and if there is a proceeding scheduled which I might need to adjust.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Length, depth, and breadth of experience; to include a complete understanding of a military case from the intial filing of a complaint, through appeals, and with collateral matteres. Many ""jury"" trials and contested trials.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping the client get the best result possible, even if that's limited to damage control.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
History.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes. Very involved through NIMJ and other organizations related to military law.
