Sexual Harassment Employment Case
In February, 2019, Mr. Pizzuto attained one of the highest verdicts for emotional distress in a sexual harassment employment case. When the case could not be settled, plaintiff hired Mr. Pizzuto and his team to try the case before Honorable Judge Rakoff in the Southern District of New York. With just a few weeks before trial, Mr. Pizzuto and his team worked feverishly to prepare the case and narrow the issues that presented best to a federal jury. After one day of deliberations, the jury found unanimously in favor of Mr. Pizzuto’s client, rendering her a $2 Million dollar verdict.
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
We tried a sexual harassment case where we obtained a $2,000,000 jury verdict for our client. Our client was not satisfied with her former attorneys and requested that we try the case shortly before the trial was to commence. We accepted the case and quickly prepared the case for trial. The verdict was unanimous and drew media attention.
How did you build a successful practice?
By being honest with your client and working hard and even harder than the opposing side when a case cannot be settled and needs to go to trial. We have an outstanding trial advocacy record.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
A lawyer that carefully listens to their client, takes the time to explain the relevant issues involving the matter, the risks and benefits of settlement and/or litigation, and, above all else, being honest with their clients so that their expectations are managed.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It is important to know your venue and the local court procedures and can be the difference between winning and losing a case. Above all else, if you are aware of the pros and cons of your specific jurisdiction, you can adequately prepare your client as to the potential risk and benefits of their case being tried in that specific locality,
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
We can answer most general questions relating to the legal services we provide, such as whether their case has merit and, if so, what the potential recovery is in terms of the damages claimed.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
We need to know the facts of their claim in order to assess liability and what their alleged damages are in order to assess whether it pays for a law firm to get involved in their matter. Some matters can be addressed with just some advice to the client, who can take that free advice and settle the dispute on their own--we have done this in the past and clients have always been thankful for the time spent covering their questions and issues surrounding their claim.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Honesty and fairness. We are always honest about our services and the issues surrounding a prospective client's case. We don't toot our own horn yet are proud of our track record. We find that many lawyers are "business first" and will decline to offer a prospective client a free evaluation or give the client enough time on a consultation to enable them to make a good decision. Our consultations are always free and we give callers enough time to speak with a highly experienced attorney or attorneys regarding their claim.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping our client is most satisfying and, best of all, is when they send us a note or even a gift to express their gratitude for the services provided.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy cooking and traveling with my family. I also enjoy sports and watching the local teams play.
Are you involved in your community?
We are involved in our local parish and take part in neighborhood/school functions and fundraisers.
