PHILIP C. PIRES is a principal in Cohen and Wolf's Litigation, Municipal, and Land Use and Zoning Groups. Resident in the Bridgeport office, Mr. Pires practices in the areas of commercial litigation, real property litigation, property tax appeals, landlord/tenant litigation, and land use and zoning law. Mr. Pires represents individuals and businesses in a variety of litigation matters, including complex commercial disputes, business litigation, real property and title disputes, and collection actions. He also regularly represents municipalities and individuals in commercial and residential property tax appeals, zoning and wetlands enforcement actions, and zoning appeals. Mr. Pires also has significant experience representing individuals, heirs, fiduciaries and creditors in a variety of probate litigation matters, including contested conservatorships. Mr. Pires is admitted to practice in Connecticut; the U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut; the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit. He is a member of the American, Connecticut, and Greater Bridgeport Bar Associations. He is a member of the Litigation and Planning & Zoning Sections of the Connecticut Bar Association. Mr. Pires formerly served on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Connecticut Bar Association as the co-chair of its Municipal Law Committee. Mr. Pires serves on the Bridgeport Community Board of Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut, Inc., an organization dedicated to educating students in grades K through 12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy. As a volunteer teacher for Junior Achievement, Mr. Pires has taught classes in Fairfield and Stratford. Mr. Pires also serves on the Board of Commissioners of the Downtown Special Services District in Bridgeport, a special taxing district serving the city's downtown area. Mr. Pires is presently serving his second term on Fairfield’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM) and was elected the Democratic Minority Leader of the RTM . He serves on the RTM's Legislation & Administration Committee and Special Legislative Management Committee. Mr. Pires is also a member of the Fairfield Democratic Town Committee. Mr. Pires is named a "Rising Star" by Connecticut Super Lawyers (2012-2016) in the category of Business Litigation. He is also honored with an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Rating, the highest possible Peer Review Rating™ from Martindale-Hubbell, and he was recently named a "New Leader in the Law" by the Connecticut Law Tribune (2015). Mr. Pires received his B.A., in 2005, from Haverford College and his J.D., with honors, in 2008 from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Constitutional Law. While in law school, he served as Executive Editor of the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal and was a member of the Connecticut Moot Court Board.
