About Phillip
Mr. Maddux brings a rich and varied background and an abundance of successful civil litigation experience to Reynolds Maddux LLP. Mr. Maddux started his legal career in Sonoma County, focusing on business, real estate and personal injury law. Mr. Maddux later moved to the Bay Area to help form a firm which emphasized large, complex insurance cases. While there, Mr. Maddux was instrumental in negotiating a seven figure settlement on behalf of two minor children whose father was killed as a result of the negligence of several large life insurance companies. He also handled a successful, multi-state action against a large insurance company, which had provoked a criminal investigation of a Virginia widower whose wife had drowned as a pretext for denying his claims under several policies on her life.
Before moving to the Sierra foothills in 1999, Mr. Maddux spent ten years with two prominent Bay Area medical malpractice defense firms, Craddick, Candland & Conti and Sheuerman, Martini & Tabari, representing such clients as UCSF Medical Center, Stanford Medical Center and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Permanente Medical Group. Just prior to becoming Chairman of Reynolds Maddux LLP Litigation Practice Group, Mr. Maddux practiced law in Auburn,focusing on real estate, business, personal injury and medical malpractice litigation and appellate work. Mr. Maddux has long had an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell, the organization's highest rating for legal competence and integrity.
Mr. Maddux earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley and his Juris Doctor from the University of California at Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law.
In his spare time, Mr. Maddux raises wine grapes and crafts fine wines. Mr. Maddux has started a small winery and is the past president of the Placer County Wine & Grape Association, a local organization of grape growers, wineries and wine lovers formed to promote viticulture, enology and wine appreciation in Placer County.
